Reviews
The theory book is ok. The theory book follows the lesson book for each level. My children learned some general information such as chords and scales.I purchased the Musical Concepts book level two for my oldest child and they liked it better than the prior Theory book 1 they completed. After completing level two in the Musical Concepts book I went back to the Theory book for level 3. And she still didn't like the theory book as much, however she is a diligent child who did her work without complaint. My second child is now using her own Theory book 3, and what a struggle to get her to do the theory work. She complains about the lack of instruction of the Theory book. The Musical Concepts book is better because it contains better diagrams and more explanation of concepts. My oldest learned more about music using Musical Conceps book two.I returned to the theory book because it doesn't contain solo music to the extent the Musical Concepts book does. The teacher was assigning songs in the Musical Concepts book, along with the Lesson book, along with recital book pieces, along with warm up pieces, (three or four Alfred songs a week), all of this jammed in a half hour lesson. My oldest child prefers playing pieces of music from other series rather than just playing all Alfred's Basic Piano selections. If you want an easy book that allows you to pick other music books for solo/repertoire pieces, get the Theory book.If you want a solo and a better Theory book all in one, get the Musical Concept book. Save yourself some money!
