All-in-One Course for Children: Lesson, Theory, Solo, Book 1 (Alfred's Basic Piano Library) Details

The "All-in-One Course for Children" takes all of the pages from "Alfred's Basic Piano Library," Lesson Books 1A and 1B, plus selected pages from Theory, Recital, and Fun Solo Books and combines them into part of a sequential five-book series. At the completion of Book 5, the student will be ready to continue into Level 3 of "Alfred's Basic Piano Library" or "Alfred's Premier Piano Course." This course is most effective when used under the direction of a piano teacher or experienced musician.

Reviews

I have been teaching lessons from these books for years and as with any set of music books there are pros and cons. I think they are ideal for younger children. It allows them to become familiar with the keys and how to play before trying to learn the names and position on the staff. It starts with finger numbers which is very understandable for 5 and 6 year olds. Then it moves on to the typical A,B, C.... For older kids, this just doesn't work. It's boring and can cause them to lose interest before they even really get into the book. I also think once the staff is introduced it moves a little too quickly since I prefer this series for my younger students. One week on treble clef before adding in bass is just not enough time. We often end up writing our own songs for several weeks to make sure they fully understand the treble clef before moving on. But all in all I do like these books and will continue to use them with my students.
