Reviews

I clicked "Five Stars", but everything is relative. No, no complaints...I think this is a great book. I don't play the piano (what?), I play the trumpet. So, what, you may ask, do I need this book for? True, you cannot play a chord on a trumpet (except one note at a time). I ARRANGE music for orchestra, band, trio, piano, you name it. The first thing I need to figure out, is a Chord Progression for whatever I want to arrange. Sometimes, there are chord names on a Lead Sheet that can help. You know, the little notes that say things like, "Bm7add9" or something like that. I know what it all means, but this book helps me to note the right notes in my arrangement quickly. The book is logically laid out and contains every chord I ever heard of, whether for jazz or classical. The size is handy, too. it's about 5-inches wide and 11-inches tall. Inside, you will find a chart of every Major key and it's relative Minor along with its key signature. There is a short bit of theory about chords and a full explanation of terms such as "Diminished" and "Augmented". If you are one of those pianists that can play chords to accompany just about anything, you'll probably find some new ones in this book to play. There are pictures of each chord on a keyboard and a notated music staff showing the same chord (for the left hand) in Bass Clef. About 12 chords are shown for each note, chromatically arrayed from A to G. I admit I'm not a pianist, so I can't say this is the best thing since grilled cheese for a pianist, but for music theorists and arrangers, it's great, AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT.
